Samam was founded in 1992 in Pondicherry which started small savings groups as early as 1992. With the onset of the NABARD guidelines for formation of "SHGs", Samam started its formation of SHGs in 1994.
The 13th Annual General Body Meeting of Samam was held in Saraswathi Mahal, Villianur, Pondicherry on the 5th of January 2008 as a full day programme. The programme was inaugurated by Raghunath.T.P. and was presided by Ms.A.Hemavathi, President of Samam. Ms.Radha Murugesan, Convenor, Samam, Tamilnadu gave a special adderss to the members. The PSCB Manager of Thirubuvanai Branch, Dr.T.Parasuraman, General Secretary, PSF, Mr.R.Dakshinamoorthy, PSF also spoke on the occasion.
The key attraction of the programme was a huge rally pressing the various demands of implementation of various women friendly acts/schemes in Pondicherry and also highlighting the Planet Earth programme.
